Family Sponsorship Update — July 30, 2026

Thursday, July 30, 2026

As of July 7, 2026, IRCC processing times dropped by one to two months for Parent and Grandparent Program (PGP) submissions and several economic immigration streams, but spousal sponsorship applicants outside Quebec saw processing times increase by one month.

Current official spousal sponsorship processing times (as of March 2026) are 16 months for Outland and 25 months for Inland applications, per IRCC's processing times tool.

Citizenship grant processing times hit a four-month low in the July 7 update, continuing a broader trend of processing improvements across multiple immigration streams.

What You Should Do

  • Check your current spousal sponsorship processing time estimate at the IRCC Processing Times Tool (canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/check-processing-times.html) — times outside Quebec increased by one month as of July 7, 2026, so re-check if you submitted recently.
  • If you are a PGP, CEC, or Quebec Business Class applicant, log into your IRCC secure account to see if your application has moved forward, as processing times for these streams dropped by one to two months in the July 7 update.
  • If you are a spousal sponsorship applicant and have received a biometrics letter, book your biometrics appointment immediately — you have only 30 days from the date of the letter to attend a biometric collection site, and you must bring the letter and your passport.
  • If you are a citizenship applicant, check your application status via the IRCC portal, as citizenship grant processing times are now at a four-month low — this may mean your application advances sooner than previously estimated.
