PR & Citizenship Update — June 25, 2026

Thursday, June 25, 2026

Processing times dropped significantly for Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) applicants — down 12 months to 26 months — and fell slightly for Provincial Nominee Program (PNP, -1 month) and Quebec Business Class (-2 months) as of June 8, 2026.

Family sponsorship processing times rose by one month across most categories, including spouses, common-law partners, and parents and grandparents.

A new TR to PR pathway is expected to open in 2026, allowing approximately 16,500 temporary residents per year in 2026 and 2027 to obtain permanent residence, with high application volumes anticipated.

What You Should Do

  • If you are an AIP applicant, check your updated processing time estimate (now 26 months) on the IRCC processing times tool at canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/check-processing-times.html and plan accordingly.
  • If you are applying through PNP or Quebec Business Class, review your current processing time on the IRCC website — PNP base and enhanced applications decreased by 1 month, and Quebec Business Class decreased by 2 months as of June 8, 2026.
  • If you are a temporary resident hoping to use the new TR to PR pathway, begin gathering eligibility documents now (proof of temporary status, work/study permits, employment records, identity documents) before the program opens — previous intakes filled within hours and caused portal crashes.
  • If you are sponsoring a spouse, common-law partner, or parents/grandparents, account for a one-month increase in processing times in your planning. Monitor updates at canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/check-processing-times.html.
  • For Express Entry applicants, note that FSW and CEC files average 4–6 months, while PNP-backed or complex files can take 7–12+ months. Ensure your e-APR is complete and consistent to avoid delays — review the IRCC document checklist at canada.ca before submitting.
