IRCC processed 112,600 permanent residence decisions from January to March 2026, and 83,000 permanent residents were admitted between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026.

During Citizenship Week (April 12–18, 2026), over 80 ceremonies were held across Canada welcoming approximately 6,000 new citizens from 40 countries.

What You Should Do

  • If you are a permanent resident eligible for citizenship, check the current citizenship application processing times at canada.ca/immigration-processing-times — note that processing times for citizenship grants climbed as of February 2026.
  • If you recently received PR and need a PR card, check current processing times at canada.ca/immigration-processing-times — new PR card processing was reported at approximately 24 days as of January 2026.
  • If you are a permanent resident considering citizenship, review the eligibility requirements and apply at canada.ca/canadian-citizenship to take advantage of strong processing volumes in early 2026.
