On August 10, 2026, IRCC updated processing times: Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) improved from 7 to 6 months, now matching the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) at 6 months — both meeting the IRCC service standard.
Base Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) was the only category to see longer wait times, despite IRCC reducing its queue by 1,400 applications.
A new TR-to-PR pathway is expected to allow approximately 16,500 temporary residents per year in 2026 and 2027 to obtain permanent residence, with high application volumes anticipated — similar to the previous pathway where some streams closed within hours.
What You Should Do
- If you are an FSWP Express Entry applicant, check your updated processing time (now 6 months) on the IRCC processing times page at canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/check-processing-times.html to update your personal timeline planning.
- If you are a base PNP applicant, be aware that processing times have increased as of August 10, 2026. Monitor the IRCC processing times page weekly at canada.ca for further changes and contact your provincial nominee program for any additional guidance.
- If you are a temporary resident (international student or foreign worker) hoping to use the TR-to-PR pathway, begin gathering eligibility documents now — before the program opens — to avoid missing intake windows. Review eligibility criteria at canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship and prepare proof of status, work/study history, and identity documents in advance.
- If you have received a citizenship ceremony invitation, practice the Oath of Citizenship in your preferred language (English or French) beforehand. If attending virtually, confirm your video setup; if in person, note you must stand during the oath. Sign the Oath or Affirmation of Citizenship (OAC) form at the ceremony to receive your citizenship certificate.
